When you would use this
The usual case is a document you are entitled to but that has become tedious: a bank or utility statement that arrives encrypted every month, or a work file whose password you have but do not want to type on every open. Removing the password also matters practically, because most other PDF tools, including the ones on this site, cannot edit a file while it is still encrypted.

- Are my files uploaded to a server?
- No. Every tool on this site runs inside your browser. Your file is read from your disk into your own browser's memory, processed there, and written back out. You can confirm this yourself: open your browser's developer tools, switch to the Network tab, and run the tool — you will not see your document being sent anywhere. It also means the tools keep working if you go offline after the page has loaded.
- Do I need to know the password?
- Yes. This tool decrypts a document you can already open — it does not crack or guess passwords. If you do not have the password, this tool cannot help you, and neither can any other legitimate one.
- Will unlocking damage the file?
- No. The decryption is lossless: page content is written back out unchanged, so text stays selectable, images keep their resolution, and links and bookmarks survive.
- Is it legal to remove a PDF password?
- It is your decision and your responsibility. This tool decrypts a document you can already open, which is a normal thing to do with your own files — a bank statement you receive encrypted every month, for example. Removing protection from a document you have no right to is not something the tool can detect, and doing so may well be unlawful where you are.
